Afterthoughts: I'm pretty happy about how this one turned out, and I think it's great that this and Day 23 are the only two paintings in this series that have subjects that face each other in real life.

Afterthoughts: To me this painting evokes the best kind of spring rain: refreshing, gentle, making the greenery extra lush and making it nice and cozy to be indoors.

Afterthoughts: Like with the Fields on West Lake  barn, I had to redraw the building twice to get it to fit onto the canvas. I guess I tend to draw big when it comes to pointy buildings. In fact, this could be reduced a teeny bit more, but overall, I'm very happy with it, especially the great contrast between the white and the brown thanks to the wonderful sunshine that morning.

Is he a dot, or is he a speck? When he's underwater does he get wet? Or does the water get him instead? Nobody knows, Particle man –TMBG, "Particle Man" My 33 on 33 project has had me nearly equally painting en plein air and in-the-van, a little bit to my frustration, but I also kind of like camping out in my blue box like some kind of vagabond. Strong contender. I almost painted this charming little blue house, but I couldn't get a good view from inside the car in case it rained. Instead, I went back into town and decided to paint a portion of the Saylor Block (seen in the black and white image from Day 23 ). This had me parked across the street from my location yesterday, and if you were able to zoom out of my photo a bit (and shift time forward a day) you'd see me painting in the van. Basically, I didn't continue moving eastward since yesterday –but I'll try to keep this as an exception and, rest assured, two very different paintings wer...

And they don't Don't know what I've seen They can't know what's in here And they can't keep Johnny down –TMBG, "Can't Keep Johnny Down" It's been raining for about half the days during my 33 on 33 project, but it's not getting me down, rather, it's strengthened my resolve to complete this daily exercise in spite of the challenges (most of them new to me: dealing with ever-changing light, rain, wind, bugs, waking up early, painting without a break, working fairly quickly). So, yeah, I was painting inside my van again today, but not before I snapped a few pics of Main Street Bloomfield –moments before the rain started. Down the path. Today's stop and subject was the  Saylor House Café , which is tucked away just down a driveway, but there is a great sign in front of the adjacent  Saylor House B&B  (both run by the seemingly always cheerful Susan Little), so you have no excuse for missing it. They fixed up the corner store like it was a night club It's permanently disco Everyone is dressed so oddly, I can't recognize them I can't tell the staff from the customers – TMBG, "Man, It's So Loud in Here" Well, I finally reached the lovely town of Bloomfield today as part of my 33 on 33 plein air painting project across Prince Edward County, and, at Day 22, this marks the two-thirds point in my journey. The weather was gorgeous... Welcome! Soon after these signs first went up a couple of years ago, the letters would fall off in amusing ways. This one in particular lost its second O and the M, leaving what appeared to be the misremembered name of a famous Bond villain . Just carrying on. This sign indicates that Loyalist Parkway continues to the right into Bloomfield (turning left will eventually take you to Belleville; your fate is in your own hands). The junction. 33 on 33: Title Page 20" x 20", oil on canvas, 2013 In just a few weeks, at the break of dawn on 25 May, I'll be hitting the road –specifically Prince Edward County's Highway 33 (AKA The King's Highway, AKA Loyalist Parkway)– for my big summer art project. Beginning at the Murray Canal at the north west end of PEC near Trenton, I'll head out early each day, gradually making my way east along 33, creating one 20" x 20" oil painting each day for 33 days. This marathon-of-sorts will conclude on 26 June at the Glenora ferry dock, and all 34 paintings (including the "title page" above) will be shown at Blizzmax Gallery  (3071 County Rd. 13, Picton, ON, 613.476.7748).  The show opens 29 June at 7pm and runs until 21 July. Throughout all of this I'll be making regular updates on Facebook, Twitter , and here on this blog. It's very likely that there will be many surprises...and maybe even a guest star or two!
